Neuroimaging
and Interventional Radiology
The
Department
of Neuroradiology came into being in 1958, has separate centres for outpatient and inpatient services
working round the clock and on all the days of the week.
Objectives
- To develop human resources in the speciality of Neuroimaging & Interventional Radiology
(D.M. Course in Neuroradiology. Please refer to the Prospectus).
- Manpower development in Neuroimaging and Interventional Technology
(Post-Diploma course in Neuroimaging Technology. Please refer to
the Propectus).
- To provide quality training in Neuroimaging & Interventional Radiology for P.G.
students of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Radiology.
- To provide interventional services in the fields of Vascular and Nonvascular
Neurological and Neurosurgical disorders.
Growth and Development
The department started in 1956 as a part of the then All India Institute of Mental Health. Later it
became an independent department and was located in Neurocentre in 1974 with the departments of
Neurology and Neurosurgery. The department has grown from one X-ray machine in 1956 to having
the most sophisticated state-of-art equipments including MRI, Biplane-Digital Angiography
System, CT Scanners and Ultrasound sciences. The department started by Dr.Pillai, has currently
a Faculty strength of five, Residents strength of eight and Technical staff of fifteen. The
department caters to a nearly 20,000 examinations per year. The department has been providing
Neurointerventional services since1986. A super speciality course in Neuroradiology(DM) has been
introduced. (For the course details, please refer to the Propectus)
