Services
This is a clinic for the
elderly above the age of 60 years with various neuropsychiatric issues like dementia (including
Alzheimer's Dementia), Depression, Psychosis, and Chronic Pain etc.
It is a multidisciplinary
team approach to the mental health issues of the elderly. Elderly are evaluated in detail on an
appointment basis. Medication advice and psychosocial care are provided. Support group for the carers
of the elderly is held at 2.00 p.m. for 30-45 minutes.
Dr. Mathew Varghese,
Dr.Srikala Bharath and Dr. P.T. Sivakumar are the psychiatric consultants, Dr. Chandra
is the neurologist, Dr.Keshav Kumar is the clinical psychologist, Dr.Thirumurthy is the
psychiatric social work consultant associated with this special clinic. Apart from clinical services there is active
research being conducted in various neuropsychiatrics aspect of the old age in collaboration with the
molecular genetics lab and other departments (Dr.Sanjeev Jain, Dr.Rita Christopher, Dr.S.K.Shankar,
Dr.Bindu Kutty, Dr.Shivakumar)

Inpatient psychiatric services
for the elderly is available. Elderly are also seen in the emergency services for acute behavioral
problems and management.
Extramural liaison with other
hospitals and agencies including NGOs caring for the elderly is active.
